Increasing the speed of peer review – particularly in times of global health crises – presents a risk to quality. Bad, premature or incomplete studies joining the peer reviewed literature and gaining media coverage, risk undermining the credibility of the scientific record. AMWA, EMWA and ISMPP came together to prepare a statement highlighting some potential pitfalls of rapid routes to study dissemination, and to make some recommendations to safeguard the quality aspects of peer review.
