52nd EMWA Conference
4-24 November 2021
This 2021 Autumn conference offers EMWA’s high-quality professional development and networking opportunities, with a new twist: it includes our first Conference Hybrid Opening Day.
On 4 November, UK colleagues will be able to get together in a London venue where speakers will be presenting ‘live’ for all conference delegates (in London and online). Networking hubs in other European cities will enable EMWA members to meet local colleagues face to face and follow the Day 1 presentations and Opening Session via broadcast from London. The graphic below shows the networking hubs. Of course, members will also have the option of attending the Opening Day virtually from the comfort of their home or office.
All sessions of the second Conference Day (5 November) will be fully virtual, and from 6 November, we’ll be running a programme of 29 virtual EMWA Professional Development Programme workshops.
The conference offers EMWA members opportunities to learn through seminars, scientific presentations, and workshops and to find out about getting started in medical writing. It also includes our Freelance Business Forum, networking events and an end-of-the-day yoga session.

Dear Colleagues
On behalf of the EMWA Executive Committee, we have great pleasure in welcoming you to the 52nd (first hybrid) EMWA Conference from Thursday 4 November to Wednesday 24 November 2021.
On Thursday 4 November 2021, we will have a hybrid opening day that includes a face-to-face conference day in London, with an opening ceremony, scientific presentations, seminars on predatory publishing, open access and how to work more efficiently, and a face-to-face networking event.
To avoid travel for our local EMWA members, we will stream the opening day across Europe and beyond. Thanks to the support of several networking groups, we can offer our members local networking events in more than 4 European countries.
The EMWA Professional Development Committee has prepared a comprehensive education programme, with 29 online workshops, covering a broad range of topics.
In addition to the workshops, the conference offers a number of events outside the formal education programme, such as the traditional Introduction to Medical Writing seminar, the Freelance Business Forum, a session on Getting Into Medical Writing, Mindfulness, and Yoga.
We would like to thank our Head Office and the team of committee members, workshop leaders and all volunteers who have been working for many months to bring you this hybrid event.
We hope that this year’s unique conference setup will give you the opportunity to get the most out of your EMWA experience.
